PROMAEL successfully installs next-generation GPON network for Meliá group in the Caribbean

Promael has successfully completed a new innovation project: the installation of an advanced WiFi network and GPON infrastructure across three Meliá chain hotels in the Caribbean. A milestone that reinforces Promael's commitment to comprehensive solutions for the international hospitality sector.

New business area

This project marks the incorporation of GPON network systems as a new line of activity at Promael, distinguished by its innovative character.

These systems significantly reduce the need for conventional fibre optic and structured cabling installation, relying on a wireless network architecture that efficiently distributes internet, IP voice, and IP television in high-capacity environments.

The challenge: from cable to wireless network

The project represented a considerable technical challenge: interconnecting the three hotels via outdoor access points and in-room access points, maintaining all existing SSIDs at each property and guaranteeing service continuity.

The solution was implemented in several phases. ONT units were installed in 1,600 rooms, transmitting internet, IP TV, and VoIP over the GPON network. New cable routes and fibre runs were installed from the hotels' main operator, unifying the three properties at a central node with the necessary GPON systems and switches.

This redundant architecture ensures that, in the event of a node failure, the affected hotel receives services through the main node.

In parallel, WiFi access points were deployed across all common areas - including the beach - so that the three hotels are interconnected and guests can move between them without losing connectivity at any time.

Communications success

This is an advanced WiFi and next-generation GPON communications project we are proud of: we met the installation guarantees and fulfilled our client's expectations and requirements.
